FINANCE FOR THE NON-FINANCIAL MANAGER

Overview:

This one day course will take the mystery out of financial statements and the tools that finance professionals use to measure, analyze, evaluate and base decisions on. The participant’s comfort level with terms and tools will be elevated to allow them to take more control and accountability with their own budget and better understand a profit and loss statement.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of financial concepts through active participation and exercises.
  2. Create a budget and analyze it using tools learned in the session.
  3. Interpret financial tools and apply knowledge to discussions and decision making.

DEALING WITH DIFFICULT BEHAVIOURS

Overview:
 
This one-day course is intended to assist front-line employees in understanding and dealing effectively with difficult behaviours.  Topics include: separating the behaviour from the individual to develop a greater understanding of the actions of others, the role that the participant plays in a difficult situation, identifying hot buttons in self and other, and strategies to encourage positive behaviour.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to;

  • Identify specific behaviours which are difficult.
  • Demonstrate skills to help deal positively and productively with these behaviours.
  • Recognize how they contribute to difficult situations.

    • This workshop addresses two major factors of problem solving: flexibility and creativity. Participants will use these factors to examine key problem-solving techniques, such as examining assumptions, modelling, shifting paradigms and drilling down.

    • This workshop outlines the characteristics of the three styles of assertive behaviour. Once the participants determine their own personal style, they will be able to understand the impact of their style on the business. COACHING FOR SUCCESS

Overview:

 
In this one-day course, participants will build their skills as a coach and identify the key coaching behaviours necessary to build a coaching culture.  Practical application will involve applying coaching knowledge and skills to case study situations and role plays customized to the participants’ environment.  Participants will leave the course with a personalized coaching plan.

  1. Articulate what coaching is and look at it in terms of a learned or an innate skill.

BUSINESS WRITING (BASIC)

This three-day course is designed to improve basic business writing skills by focusing on areas such as organizing your thoughts and applying easy to use writing style and techniques. Participants learn different styles and techniques to maximize the effective writing experience.
 
Day 1:             Getting Started
 
Overview:
In Day 1, participants will learn various writing strategies and methods for idea development.  They will review the various writing formats and when to use which format to create professional looking communications.

Upon successful completion of this workshop participants will be able to;

  1. Select the right writing format for effective communication.
  2. Utilize a process for organizing thought and idea development.
  3. Apply a professional look to all written communications.
 
Day 2:             Writing the First Draft
 
Overview:
In Day 2 of the course, participants will utilize a writing process to help them organize their thoughts into a clear and concise message.  They will practice preparing draft written documents and proofreading them for content and grammar.

Upon successful completion of this workshop participants will be able to;
  1. Apply a writing style that’s both professional and clear.
  2. Prepare effectively organized emails, memos, agendas and letters.
  3. Recognize and correct poor spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  4. Improve the quality of communications through effective proofreading.
 
Day 3:             Writing to Persuade
 
Overview:
Day 3 is dedicated to persuasive communications.  Participants will apply effective business writing skills to engage their audience.

Upon successful completion of this workshop participants will be able to;
  1. Match the written communication to the audience.
  2. Secure action from their writing efforts.
  3. Measure the readability of their written communications.
