FUTURE READY LEADERSHIP ESSENTIAL SKILLS

The Future Ready Leadership Essential Skills program consists of five introductory leadership training courses delivered one day per month, over five months. This program is developed for frontline supervisors and helps them learn how to transition from ‘buddy’ to ‘boss’.
 
DAY 1
Stepping Into Leadership
Explore personal and team leadership along with leadership competencies. DiSC® personality theory will be used to understand one’s own personality type and the personality types of others.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate their understanding of their role in relation to their direct reports, their managers, the company and themselves.
2. Explain the difference between personal leadership and team leadership.
3. Define qualities that make a great leader.
4. Articulate strategies to increase leadership effectiveness.

Day 2
Communication Fundamentals

Learn a basic communication model, types of communication and types of listening. Determine when to use open-ended and closed-ended questions for a more effective conversation. The barriers to communication and solutions to overcome them will be covered.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the communication process.
2. Identify the differences between effective and ineffective communication.
3. Identify barriers of communication and develop solutions to overcome them.

DAY 3
Motivating and Empowering Employees

Learn the difference between motivation and inspiration. Recognize the importance of the different levels of delegation and empowerment and determine when to use each level. Understand the importance of team leadership and the stages of team development.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Differentiate between motivation and inspiration.
2. Explain the benefits of delegation and empowerment and when it’s best to use each.
3. Describe the team development model and recognize that teams go through different stages of development.
 
DAY 4
Dealing with Difficult Behaviours

Effectively deal with difficult behaviours by understanding the actions of others. Identify personal “hot buttons” and develop strategies to encourage positive behaviour.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify specific behaviours which are difficult.
2. Determine strategies to deal with people’s difficult behaviours.
3. Utilize appropriate levels of assertiveness.
 
DAY 5
Applying Essential Skills

Prioritize activities and time to ensure more efficient performance. Acquire the tools to conduct and facilitate effective meetings with employees and/or co-workers.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Prioritize activities and tasks using a Time Management Matrix and SMART goals.
2. Identify personal time wasters.
3. Gain a clear understanding of what constitutes effective and productive meetings.
4. Use facilitation tools and techniques to lead effective meetings and achieve intended results.

FUTURE READY LEADERSHIP 1

The Future Ready Leadership 1 program consists of eight customized leadership training courses delivered one day per month, over eight months. This program is developed for emerging and existing leaders.
 
DAY 1
Power of Teams

Learn about the key leadership competencies to be developed throughout program. Understand the value of working together as a team to cultivate a high-performance working team.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Evaluate personal leadership capabilities by completing a competency based self-assessment.
2. Apply principles of trust, respect and mutual accountability to build effective teams.
3. Develop strategies for moving from effective to high-performing teams.
 
DAY 2
Embracing Diversity through Impact Communications

Understand, encourage and embrace diversity amongst the team. A communication model will be introduced for effective interaction with employees, colleagues, co-workers and customers. DiSC® personality profiles will be completed and each personality type will be explained.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Apply a communication model to effectively interact with others.
2. Identify personality styles and their impact on communication.
3. Utilize knowledge of diverse teams to achieve better results.
 
 
DAY 3
Leadership Dynamics

Learn the different leadership styles and the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to be an effective leader. Envision the value of a personal leadership legacy.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Apply the four styles of the Situational Leadership® Model.
2. Use developmental leadership to build a leadership development plan.
3. Create a leadership legacy.
 
DAY 4
Managing Performance

Learn the process and tools of performance management. Utilize strategies to increase employee retention.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe performance management.
2. Apply the performance management process and tools.
3. Develop effective retention strategies.
 
DAY 5
Coaching Conversations and Learning from Leaders

Morning:
Conduct effective coaching conversations with employees.
Afternoon:
Experience a panel of three to four leaders sharing their views regarding the role of leadership within today’s changing workplace.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Practice using a coaching conversations model.
2. Participate in a unique opportunity to learn from seasoned expert leaders in the community.
 
DAY 6
Facilitating Change

Explore how to effectively lead teams through change. Use and apply a change management model to recognize the opportunities and challenges that change creates for employees.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe change and why it is necessary.
2. Utilize strategies to guide people through change.
3. Apply a change management model to lead teams through change.
 
DAY 7
You Asked For It

While all days are completely customizable, Day 7 is created based on the requests of participants in the program. We will design and deliver the course they ask for.
 
DAY 8
Planning Your Leadership Success

Morning:
Develop personal leadership plans by looking at opportunities to continue to grow and develop as a leader.
Afternoon:
Participants work in small teams and present to an audience of their peers and leaders what they have learned and applied from the program. They will then celebrate their graduation.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Complete a personal SWOT analysis identifying key areas for growth.
2. Finalize their leadership development plan.
3. Demonstrate effective presentation skills.

FUTURE READY LEADERSHIP 2
 
The Future Ready Leadership 2 program consists of six customized leadership training courses delivered one day per month, over six months. This program is for graduates of the Future Ready Leadership 1 program.
 
DAY 1
Professionalism and Ethics

Learn the relationship between professionalism, ethics and moral standards to be an effective leader. Strategies for facing challenges in a professional manner will be discussed.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Explain why professionalism, ethics and moral standards are important principles in leadership.
2. Describe and discuss types of ethical challenges in leadership and within the organization.
3. Apply strategies for facing ethical challenges in a professional and moral manner.
4. Articulate the importance of professionalism, ethics and moral standards when using social media.
 
DAY 2
Emotional Intelligence

Explore Daniel Goleman’s Theory of Emotional Intelligence and discover his Four Domains of Emotional Intelligence. Recognize feelings and emotions and learn to manage them as a part of leading others.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Define emotional intelligence and recognize its role in leadership effectiveness.
2. List and articulate Daniel Goleman’s Four Domains of Emotional Intelligence.
3. Match the principles of emotional intelligence to key leadership competencies.
4. Use emotional intelligence to develop personal and team leadership resulting in an increase in organizational effectiveness.
 
DAY 3
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

Build skills and apply standards of critical thinking in different workplace situations. Identify the cause of complex problems and the techniques and steps to solve problems.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Articulate what critical thinking is and evaluate the effectiveness of different techniques of critical thinking.
2. Determine factors affecting the ability to effectively solve problems and apply a structured way to approach and dismantle problems.
3. Explain direct causes, root causes and apply a root cause analysis.
4. Utilize problem solving techniques such as examining assumptions, modeling, drilling down and SWOT analysis.
 
DAY 4
Conflict Resolution

Effectively resolve conflict by combining theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on conflict resolution skills.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Define conflict and identity possible sources and causes.
2. Recognize the link between personal conflict resolution styles, assertiveness levels and typical responses to conflict.
3. Demonstrate the ability to use conflict management strategies and a conflict resolution model.
 
DAY 5
Negotiation Skills

Negotiate effectively while recognizing the needs and interests of all parties. Identify methods of negotiation and have the opportunity to practice.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Define negotiation and identify when it is best to use negotiation skills.
2. Use negotiation techniques to influence decision making.
3. Apply negotiating techniques to real workplace situations.
 
DAY 6
Challenging Communications

Handle challenging conversations effectively. Clearly and diplomatically communicate with internal and external governing bodies (e.g. boards, council, etc.).
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize the role diversity plays in communications.
2. Utilize the art of diplomacy when handling challenging communications.
3. Address difficult situations by mastering crucial conversations.

Future Ready Leadership for Executives

The Future Ready Leadership for Executives program consists of four customized executive training courses delivered over a time period at your request. This program is for new or existing executives.
 
DAY 1
Executive Presence

Learn about executive presence and how it helps to drive performance, embrace change and empower leaders.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe executive presence.
2. Discuss how the three components of effective communication play a large role in demonstrating and establishing executive presence.
3. Utilize executive presence to enhance leadership accountability.
 
DAY 2
Build and Sustain Your Corporate Culture

Discover key attributes for a strong organizational culture. Align the organization’s culture with the organization’s vision, mission and values.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify what makes a strong organizational culture and align it with the organization’s mission, vision and values.
2. Identify opportunities and build a plan to improve organizational culture.
3. Attract and retain employees by leveraging your distinct culture.
 
DAY 3
Enhancing Innovation and Creativity

Learn the difference between creativity (the ability to think of new things) and innovation (thinking differently about something that already exists) and implementing change.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Illustrate the difference between innovation and creativity.
2. Demonstrate creativity by generating ideas using various tools and techniques.
3. Apply different levels of innovation to workplace situations.
 
DAY 4
Implementing Your Strategic Plan

Most organizations spend countless hours writing their strategic plans; few implement them. Learn methods to ensure your upfront investment is realized and your plan is actioned.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Prioritize and turn goals into action plans.
2. Build and implement a communication plan.
3. Mobilize employees to carry out action plans and achieve results.

FUTURE READY LEADERSHIP FOR WATER OPERATORS
