Cupping has been used for years by practitioners. More specifically, physiotherapists, massage therapists and acupuncturists will use cupping within their treatment plans to add a different element of manual therapy. Cupping can be used to decrease scar tissue, fascial adhesions, improve circulation, reduce trigger point pain, release toxins to name a few. With traditional massage or soft tissue work, pressure is usually applied with the therapists hands and the muscle is kneaded. With cupping, suction is used to pull up the tissues. Cups can be placed on trigger points and left in place, or the cup can be moved along the surface of the skin with suction applied to "strip" the affected area.
If you've had cupping done during an acupuncture session with Bir Kaur @warriorhealingarts, you will notice her application of cups can be different from our physiotherapists. Cupping sets are a great tool to add to your home therapy set up. Check our product shelves in the next couple of weeks as we add some new and exciting products!
