"Nervous about WHAT exactly would happen in a pelvic health physiotherapy treatment?? How could therapists help down THERE?
Physiotherapy for pelvic muscles is very, very similar for physiotherapy for the legs, arms, neck, and especially, the jaw (after all - the mouth is a cave too!).
Could you imagine coming to physiotherapy for your jaw, the approach would be … as always…
Physiotherapy is as easy as 1,2,3,(4)! 1. Pain control (simple repeated motions to desensitize, tips for posture) 2. Range of motion recovery (stretch, applying pressure to the outside of the jaw, insert a gloved hand to the upper corner of the mouth to release muscles) 3. Strengthening (strengthening with an endurance focus or burst of power focus, grading muscles via touch of the jaw/teeth) 4. (Sports recovery/high intensity lifestyle demands - in this case, maybe a public speaking career)
It follows that it would not be tough to imagine coming to physiotherapy for your pelvic floor, the approach would be … as always…
Physiotherapy is as easy as 1,2,3,(4)! 1. Pain control (simple repeated motions to desensitize, tips for breathing patterns) 2. Range of motion recovery (stretch, applying pressure to the thighs/lower abdomen, insert a gloved finger into the vagina or anus to release muscles with pressure to the sides - where the hip and pelvic muscles are) 3. Strengthening (strengthening with an endurance focus or burst focus, grading muscles via touch (again to primarily the sides) of the vagina and or anus) 4. (Sports recovery/high intensity lifestyle demands - in this case, maybe jumping on a trampoline or picking up a baby)
You see - not hard to imagine! After all, a muscle is a muscle, a stretch is a stretch, a cave is a cave, a physio session is a physio session. And yes, we treat the pelvic floors of persons of all genders.
Come on in and kick that pelvic pain or weakness, get back to what you love doing!"
