When the weather outside is frightful, an unexpected furnace break-down is the last thing you need. Regular maintenance before the furnace season begins will keep you and your family comfortable all-year round. Here are some checks that you can do yourself, and some that will require a professional.
Checks you can perform yourself:
Inspect your heading system for visible signs of deterioration, such as leakage, water stains or corrosion.
For forced-air, systems, clean your air filters often, at least twice per heating season.
Ensure that the area around your furnace is free from junk (rags, paint, other flammable materials).
Check warm-air outlets and cold-air intake vents for obstructions (carpets, etc).
