How can a Chiropractor help me with PCS (Post-Concussion Syndrome)?? First, it starts with early assessment of symptoms. Once this assessment has been completed, rehabilitation plans are set in place with proper restrictions in daily activities in work, school and play. The Chiropractor’s treatments will focus largely on vestibular and visual recovery. Secondly, when we think head injury, we don’t always consider the spine the head is connected to. However, many of the concussion symptoms have a strong correlation to the misalignment within the spine. If there has been enough force to cause a concussion, then there has been enough force to shift the spine. Reducing misalignments are another essential part of PCS treatment and healing process that can be assisted by a Chiropractor.

Have you been under the assumption that a concussion only happens if you black out? This is not always the case! Whiplash, falls, head injury and any form of sudden contact in sports or normal activities can cause a concussion! While these incidents do not immediately indicate a concussion, it is good to know what symptoms to look out for: • Headaches, (throbbing at the temples and eyes, behind the ears and/or the base of the skull) • Problems with spatial alertness • Tightness in the shoulder blades and/or neck • Dizziness, loss of memory, blurry focus (mentally and/or visually) • Problems reading If these symptoms continue for weeks to months later, that could indicate PCS (post-concussion syndrome). If any of the symptoms listed are making you consider if you or a loved one has sustained a concussion, confirm with your doctor and see a practitioner for PCS treatment. At Essential Physiotherapy & Wellness we offer wellness through Chiropractic treatment.
