"Nervous about WHAT exactly would happen in a pelvic health physiotherapy treatment?? How could therapists help down THERE?

Physiotherapy for pelvic muscles is very, very similar for physiotherapy for the legs, arms, neck, and especially, the jaw (after all - the mouth is a cave too!).

Could you imagine coming to physiotherapy for your jaw, the approach would be … as always…

Physiotherapy is as easy as 1,2,3,(4)!
1. Pain control (simple repeated motions to desensitize, tips for posture)
2. Range of motion recovery (stretch, applying pressure to the outside of the jaw, insert a gloved hand to the upper corner of the mouth to release muscles)
3. Strengthening (strengthening with an endurance focus or burst of power focus, grading muscles via touch of the jaw/teeth)
4. (Sports recovery/high intensity lifestyle demands - in this case, maybe a public speaking career)

It follows that it would not be tough to imagine coming to physiotherapy for your pelvic floor, the approach would be … as always…

Physiotherapy is as easy as 1,2,3,(4)!
1. Pain control (simple repeated motions to desensitize, tips for breathing patterns)
2. Range of motion recovery (stretch, applying pressure to the thighs/lower abdomen, insert a gloved finger into the vagina or anus to release muscles with pressure to the sides - where the hip and pelvic muscles are)
3. Strengthening (strengthening with an endurance focus or burst focus, grading muscles via touch (again to primarily the sides) of the vagina and or anus)
4. (Sports recovery/high intensity lifestyle demands - in this case, maybe jumping on a trampoline or picking up a baby)

You see - not hard to imagine! After all, a muscle is a muscle, a stretch is a stretch, a cave is a cave, a physio session is a physio session. And yes, we treat the pelvic floors of persons of all genders.

Come on in and kick that pelvic pain or weakness, get back to what you love doing!"

Hands up if you've had an unknown injury or pain that you tried to diagnose and treat via Dr. Google.

Here's why seeking an assessment with a physiotherapist is the best idea if you are looking for answers.

A physiotherapist will do a full assessment in order to tailor a treatment plan based on their clinical findings. In order to do so, a physiotherapist will begin with a subjective approach asking questions like: What does the pain feel like? How long have you experienced the pain? How does it affect your daily life (sleep, work, activities)? What makes it feel better/worse? What movements cause you the most discomfort? After the subjective assessment comes the objective assessment. At this stage, they will take a closer look at your joint range of motion, strength, flexibility, posture, etc and come up with a diagnosis.

Google is great for paying attention to keywords, which will allow the search engine to produce facts. However, it does not have the ability to ask you questions, or use clinical reasoning to help produce a diagnosis and treatment plan. Pain can be affected by a number of factors; emotional, physical, cognitive, lifestyle habits, social, and other diseases or conditions that a person may have. And as we know, every body is different and everyone experiences pain differently.

Searching “what does it mean if my lower back is aching?" could produce a scary diagnosis like: cancer, herniated disc, nerve damage, etc. If a physiotherapist were to assess you, they would take a look at your spine, hip joints, walking patterns, knee joints, ankles, neck, job factor, sleep patterns, pain patterns, underlying health conditions, etc. From there, a diagnosis may be as simple as hip weakness.

When you make an appointment at Kneaded Care, you can be sure that your physiotherapist will be very thorough in their assessment using facts, research, subjective and objective information from you, to help come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan tailored for you.

Attention Significant Others/Children📢

This RMT will often tell your spouse/parent to go home after their massage, have a bath, throw on some heat and rest.
She will tell them…
"don't worry about cooking dinner tonight"
“don't worry about those dishes"
“don't worry about the dirty laundry".
You may have fallen victim to Julie's strict “go on strike" rule, and for that we apologize. We promise that her intentions are good. 🤣🤣

Product Feature: TENS Unit

This portable unit is exactly what you need for pain relief. Though it's name has nothing to do with the number ten, its lengthy name Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation explains it's function. The TENS unit works by delivering small electrical impulses through the adhesive electrodes, flooding the nervous system, reducing its ability to transmit pain signals to the brain.

The TENS unit is easy to set up, simple to control, compact and portable. Using the TENS is a non invasive way to reduce your pain, with the potential to allow you to decrease your pain medication, if not come off of it all together.

The TENS unit comes equipped with a clip so you can wear it on your belt or in your pocket, around your house while doing your chores. It is small and relatively discreet.

While the TENS unit is safe for most people, there are some MAJOR contraindications in which we would never suggest a TENS unit. For example, those who have a pacemaker will not be allowed to use the TENS as the electrical impulses can interfere with the pacemaker. There are other contraindicators as well, so please make sure you speak to a professional before using a TENS unit.
