There are a lot of scams going on out there, the best thing to do is use common sense, is it too good to be true. Remember Microsoft, Apple, Amazon your bank will NEVER call you and ask for access to your computer or devices. If you receive one of these calls no matter how threatening, just hang up, if they call back angrier hang up again and call the police, they will handle it. The new one going around is called the grandparent scam where your relative has been arrested and you have to post bail, guess what, that's not how the Canadian court system works, again just hang up. Last no government agency or bank will ever require you to pay with gift cards...ever.
